Consensus needs your input: here's how it works

Consensus continues to welcome news and views from the Affirm United community and beyond.
For many years, Consensus has appealed to readers to "send us your stuff." And here's the good news. You are responding.
The editors are pleased to report that we are receiving more articles, letters, photos, and story ideas than ever before in the newsletter's 23-year history.
The purpose of Consensus is to help our members stay in touch with what is happening within Affirm United and in the larger struggle for GLBT justice in church and society.
With readers' help, we report and comment on the news, offer a forum for discussion, and suggest ways people can take action. We tell stories of change and hope that will inspire and inform our readers.
We encourage letters, photos, and comments as well as longer articles. News about local events is particularly important.
Sometimes readers submit sermons, worship services, or workshops that are too long for inclusion in a small newsletter. In the future we will be sharing more of this kind of material in workshop kits or on our Web site.
Because Consensus is published infrequently, we will more often post news of upcoming events on the Affirm United Web site.

Writing for Consensus

If you would like to write for Consensus, here are some things to keep in mind:
  • Consensus will be soon moving to a new online format.
  • No need to submit a finished article. We often write news stories from notes that people send us.
  • All articles will be edited for length, clarity, and journalistic style. We will contact authors if additional information is required.
  • Guidelines for length are 350 words for news stories and up to 1,000 words for interpretive articles and feature stories.
  • We invite writers and photographers to discuss their ideas with us before sending a submission. This way we can plan to leave space, as well as offer tips on the "angle" that best suits Consensus.
  • Send material to Jackie Harper .
